80, of Tamarac, FL, formerly of Milton and Canton, MA, died peacefully at home on Aug. 26, 2006. He was the beloved husband and best friend of 58 years of Libby (Titlebaum) Kaner, the much loved father of Ellen and Bill Bresnick of Potomac, MD, Paul Kaner of Sharon, MA, Debbi and Bob Goldich of Lafayette Hill, PA, Michael and Barbara Kaner of Newtown, PA, and Wendy Kaner of Easton, MA, the adored "Papa" of Bethany (Bresnick) and Jay Spector, Sara (Bresnick) and Adam Tennen, Matthew, Russell, and Mitchell Goldich, Shelly and Stephanie Kaner, Jason, Joshua, and the late Max Steven Kaner, and the cherished "Zayde" and Great-Grandfather of Jordyn Spector. He was also the son of the late Barnet and Rebecca Kaner of Roxbury, MA, and the baby brother of the late Maurice Kaner, Mary Kaplan, and Bessie Darish. For many years, Mel was engaged in the automotive repair and tire industry and was the owner of Canton Tire Service in Canton, MA until his retirement in 1994. He was a long time, active member of Temple Shalom in Milton, MA where he served on many committees. A World War II Veteran (U.S. Army) and a member of the Jewish War Veterans, chapter #696 in Milton, MA. Mel was also a Mason who was a member of the Moses Michael Hays and Cosmopolitan Lodges. He was also the past-president of the Parents League of Hebrew College in Brookline, MA. Funeral services will be hald at the Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington St., CANTON, on Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Because of the extraordinary care that was given to Mel during his final illness, the family requests that donations be made to VITAS Hospice, 5420 NW 33rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309, (954) 486-4085. Shiva will be observed at The Courtyard Marriot, 300 River Ridge Drive, Norwood, MA on Monday, August 28, 2006 and on Tuesday August 29, 2006 until 12:00 p.m. with the rest of the week at the homes of his children in PA and MD.
